Tribune: "Naric Receives Rice Gift from Japanese Government." I underestimated them — only 6,000 out of the 25,000 sacks of rice are being given, which means more propaganda opportunities when they give the rest. As usual, its giving is described as an exaggerated Japanese gesture of kindness, even though the rice is not a gift but is owed to the Filipinos in exchange for the sugar, lard, and soap we're supplying them. A report doing the rounds in town says the Japanese actually took 20,000 sacks of rice from Naric, against the wishes of Alunan. The 6,000-sacks story is said to be in answer to that report.
