A Wanted ad in the papers offered a ransom of P500 for information leading to the capture of Vicente Domingo. The picture shows a robust man wearing a bow tie. The venerable Mrs. Kyburz is in Fort Santiago for exchanging military currency. Her husband, buried just four days ago, had been pro-Axis and refused to exchange Japanese currency. The stubborn 60-year old Swiss lady had told off the Japanese a number of times already. "I haven't much longer to live," she told me once, "I can and will speak my mind, even to the Japs." My guess is they'll be happy to let her out shortly. Of course, I haven't been in Fort Santiago yet (Maurice says I am well overdue) though I note that those who have paid their respects there turn pale at the mere mention of the place. |
