Major General Fortich, governor of Bukidnon Province, Mindanao, has five regiments of guerrillas according to the Nippon Times Weekly. The article admitted his men control quite a sector of coastline. A Japanese expedition force that landed there couldn't locate his guerrillas because they split up and took off for the mountains. I was told that Father Hurley, 8 American and 3 Filipino Jesuits would be at Fort Santiago "for a long time" — reason still unknown. Heard that a certain gentleman with beaucoup d'argent in Japanese military currency sent a note to another in Santo Tomas offering to exchange P30,000 military for a P10,000 check of Filipino money payable after the war. That puts the exchange rate for big money at 3:1. |
