Tribune: "American fleet flees south in third Solomon Sea Battle.... Nippon Navy scores more successes... 8 cruisers ['blitz-sunk'], 5 destroyers, transports sunk ... 3rd battle of Solomons disastrous to Allies." The Japanese admit losing one battleship and 3 destroyers sunk, and 7 transports "heavily damaged."

If the American fleet fled south the Japanese would have blasted Guadalcanal. Rear Admiral Teizo Minami said, "The third battle of the Solomons was fought against heavy disadvantages on our side because the base of the Japanese forces was far from the scene of the fighting, while the enemy had a powerful airbase and air force in Guadalcanal." So, after reports had them stranded, cut off and abandoned, the Americans were able to build a "powerful airbase and airforce."

In a radio broadcast, "local educator" Anselmo Arquillo said the end of Occidental influence here comes because "the Oriental people have found a leader and ideal in Japan." What has everyone here talking about is the distinct sound of a raspberry (Bronx cheer) heard a second after he finished.
