Counter propaganda from Kenichi Kakaya, former manager of the Manila branch of Domei, quoting Admiral Togo: "One gun shooting one shot without missing can equal a hundred guns shooting one hundred shots without a hit." Do the math: for the single gun to hit 100 targets, it would have to survive 5,000 incoming shots. Two locals asked to join my table for lunch at a very crowded Astoria. One worked at Hess & Zeitlin and knew Joe. The other was an Air Depot Officer at Nichols when the war began. The U.S. had 50 Flying Fortresses and 200 interceptors, he said, and not only was there divided opinions at Clark on that fatal December 8, but some fifth column work too. The radio operator held back vital information and was shot, as were several other officers for negligence. |
