Still getting reports of chaotic conditions in the Southern islands, with the Japanese shooting civilians in reprisal for guerilla actions. The Japanese are trying to build up the Constabulary to fight the bandits — only you can't tell the bandits from the guerrillas. Who will join when they realize they have to fight fellow Filipinos? Listened to KGEI news at 1700 while our Japanese neighbor bowled in Bachrach's basement. I switched to music when they hit the pool, until a peal of lightning made the speaker bark and I jumped to switch it off. One peal of lightning is enough to put a guy on edge. Incidentally, Stalingrad doesn't appear on any of the twenty pages of the Sunday News and Sunday Tribune. |
