Today's the 295th day of the Pacific War and the 270th of Occupation. It rained today but the winds subsided. We lost two trees; the Meyers lost one. The Japanese have been giving out lots of decorations and citations for past actions, but they don't seem to be doing much now. After cleaning out isolated Japanese groups in Guadalcanal and Florida Islands, a U.S. communiqué says: "It may be said our positions in the Solomons have expanded somewhat." The Japanese are also retreating at the Owen-Stanley Range, New Guinea. As for Stalingrad: "Nazis enter factory area." |
