An American-Filipino mechanic of Baguio Gold moved his whole family from Antipolo to Manila. Traveling to Baguio isn't safe anymore, he said, and a new Japanese garrison in Antipolo has been conducting regular searches and interrogations — "even the alcalde got slapped recently." It's not any better in Tarlac, where a Spanish engineer says, "shooting can be heard almost every night."

After much bothering by the Japanese, our neighbor, Mrs. Bachrach, has moved to a smaller house in San Juan and a Japanese civilian has taken over the Casa Blanca. Now, we'll be bothered.
