Had a chat in the store with a Japanese civilian who has been here for 13 years and is now a purchasing agent for the Japanese Navy in Cavite. He astonished me by insisting that the Japanese would take Hawaii soon ... "within 30 days." As for the U.S., it would fall within a year! Last Saturday, the Japanese arrested all the Chinese running stalls in the Quiapo area. Every time a car stops in front of our store I wonder if it's my turn. Schaer said he felt the same way. I guess we all do Ex-Mayor Rodriguez and his three sons are in Fort Santiago, according to Lolita who heard it from his nieces. The governor of Rizal is also there — all were probably caught helping guerrillas, or maybe the Rodriguezes hid some supplies from their gun shop. |
