It's been two days without a word from the VoF as Corregidor is under heavy bombardment. Gave Ramon Amusategui some medicines for Joe. He'll hand it to Villa-Abrille, a big Spaniard of Central Azucarera de Tarlac. The Japanese buy his sugar and trust him enough to let him into the American section of O'Donnell. When I told Ramon that Joe needed to take a particular drug under medical supervision, he told me that doctors were not allowed to enter the American camp, and at least one POW has already died because of that. Manila society girls petitioned Japanese headquarters en masse, and managed to secure 15 passes to visit and bring food for Filipino prisoners. Five truckloads of food prepared by prominent Filipinos and Spaniards with five volunteer nurses were ready to leave for the camps when the society girls protested the passes were meant for them to go too. The trucks are staying still while negotiations proceed. |
