Apparently the Japanese don't trust the Filipino police. Only officers have pistols; each gets five bullets that have to be accounted for except for Chief Torres, who gets ten. A few weeks ago, Captain Guinto killed a robber with two shots; he had to present the cartridges to get replacement bullets. The Sunday News quoted Yoshizawa, ex-envoy to the NEI, predicting emphatically that war would be over in a few months. VoF’s short broadcast said MacArthur would return. We’re counting on it. |
