COURIER: Laurel "dissolves P.I. Republic ... in view of Japan's surrender. No word yet from Yamashita and his estimated 60,000 to 70,000 soldiers in the Sierra Madre Range.

My diary ended yesterday. The war is over. Manila is prostrate, without electricity or transportation of any kind. No banks or stores are open. Time to rest and prepare for my marriage. My wife's wedding dress is being fashioned out of material from a used American parachute I bought.
