The barometer has been falling as the rains pick up, entering the "Severe Hurricane" bracket at around 1500. Winds were strong but not violent. Planes in Leyte are grounded; my guess is the Americans already have six airfields and are constructing more runways. Tribune: "Nippon army, navy, Commanders in Philippine area" — General Tomoyuki Yamashita is the Army Commander, Vice-Admiral Denshichi Okawauchi the Navy Commander, Lt. Gen. Yasutsugu Tominaga is Commander of the Army Air Force, Vice-Admirals Shigeru Fukudome and Takijiro Onishi command the Naval Air Units. |
