Eisenhower announced the destruction of the German Seventh Army as a fighting unit, thus the Battle of France ended in an Allied victory. Bombings continue over the European continent. In the Pacific, it's vast: Begin at Iwo (skipping the Kuriles for today), and then visit Truk, Yap, Oleai, Ponape, the Marshalls, Nauru, Palau, Halmahera, Amboina, Japanese shipping in Davao, Indonesia, New Guinea, the upper Solomons. A small raid by carrier aircraft damaged and probably sank two Japanese freighters off Sabang. Stilwell's forces "probably" sank another Japanese freighter. Japanese fighter opposition was only encountered over Iwo. In Manila, the air raid drills are over though the partial blackout will continue. |
