April 7, 1944 — Good Friday
No papers and not much news — stayed home all day feeling unwell. Am worried I might need to undergo another operation again this summer — the worst possible time. Finally got Chungking on the radio last night. Hollandia, Truk, Ponape and the Marshalls got hit again — no word on Palau yet. It should come tomorrow. The Anglo-Indian Division trapped in Tiddim fought its way back to Imphal 90% intact with 300 vehicles and 4,000 animals, after inflicting 1,800 Japanese casualties. |
