Tribune: "Fall of Imphal Matter of Time, Foe Camp Fears." All I can say is that the Japanese are going to look ridiculous if they don't take Imphal. La Vanguardia said it's only a matter of days. "Cebu returning to normal, Officials report to President" — only now, eh? Splashes: "The lower the standard of group intelligence, the speedier is the velocity at which wild rumors spread.... To know you know is power because you don't have to be jittery about things." It's the Japanese who are jittery; we're merely excited. After a three-day silence, Manila Radio went back on the air at 1600, meaning All Clear. Everyone realized what it meant — the American Navy moved out of range. Said a disappointed friend: "Well, at this rate it means another year." The funny thing is that a "high ranking" Japanese officer told "Z" the Americans had taken Palau and were expected to bomb Davao at any moment. |
