Tribune: Mayor Guinto tells us to prepare candles, oil or kerosene lamps, as a "precautionary measure against any blackout practice in the city."

"1,500 employees wanted by city." The bait:

A daily wage of P2.00 plus free lunch, and allowances for residence, overtime, family, traveling, gratuity, prize money and, for continuous services ... an increase of P5.00 per week in wages every three months is guaranteed.

Three American prisoners escaped from the Japanese here after more than a year of captivity, and reached the States. Each wrote out a full statement under oath of their experiences, pulling no punches. The U.S. is in an uproar of indignation about the harsh treatment meted to prisoners of war.
