E.M. says the government should reduce the population of Manila: "Why should so many people stay in Manila to suffer as well as to make others suffer?" The answer is obvious — they suffer more in the provinces. Maharajah takes his cue from E.M. and Laurel, and blames our current predicament on sins of the past. You'd think that none of them ever heard of supply and demand. The government's latest brainstorm: They'll pay P8 for a sack of palay retroactive to December 1, and CONFISCATE all of it at that price! Otto Winkler confirmed that conditions in Japan were as bad as suggested by the letter from the Japanese nurse. When the German Ambassador to Japan visited the German Club here some months ago, he said that compared to conditions in Japan, the Philippines was "a paradise." |
