The Japanese have locked 1,000 to 1,500 men inside the Cathedral in Las Piñas for two days now. My informant, a pro-Japanese Fascist, said this new "zoning" tactic was developed around the Laguna area with the purpose of rounding up arms and ammunition. The captives are questioned and given forms to fill, and sometimes, a masked informer points out any guerrillas to the Japanese. The tactic exploits bad blood within a group, makes it easy to recruit stool pigeons, and allows the Japanese to search the houses of the detained men.
