The Commentator turns Manila upside down again. "The leaving of Kiska may be compared to the throwing away of the fag end of a cigar." Having smoked it, they throw the butt away. Now they are smoking a second cigar in the Solomons, and after the monsoons, may light a third in the Indo-Burmese front. At PiƱol's store this morning, Penny yelled out to Vidal: "Which cigar are you smoking?" "The Tokyo cigar," said Vidal, equal to the occasion. A while later I ran into Keller; he was smoking "the Berlin cigar." |
