Tribune: "Port Darwin raided" — the Japanese shoot down 21 fighters, lose none, and we're admitting some losses. "Foe loses 377 tanks in Tunisia," including armored vehicles between April 16 and 30. The big news is not printed: the Americans took Mateur after bitter hand-to-hand fighting, cutting Bizerta and Tunis from each other. The Japanese military ordered some matches recently. Any old label would be fine, they said. The matches were delivered — and duly returned. The Match Company had carelessly chosen one of its favorite brands — The Setting Sun. |
