Another parade — this time to celebrate the reopening of the Manila-Legaspi railroad line. "Total Effort for Freedom Urged on People of Cagayan Valley." At a Kalibapi rally in Tuguegarao, Sison urged authorities to cooperate while Aquino made his usual speech about racial dignity, nationalism, and the three "easy" conditions required by the Japanese to grant us independence. 'Philippines for the Filipinos' only means that the Philippine government ... our destiny ... the administration of our national affairs ... must be in Filipino hands. In the past, the Spanish Flag flew from our buildings. After the Spanish Flag, you saw ... the American Flag. Now look — it's the flag of a grand Oriental nation. Well, our Filipino government is under Japanese control; and the flag that flies from our buildings (and just about everywhere today, it seems) is not our flag but the Japanese Flag. Under the Americans at least, our flag flew alongside theirs. |
