Aquino in the Kalibapi rallies at Bataan and Zambales: "If American strategy was aimed at defending the Philippines, why did the Americans destroy many cities?" Like Manila? It proves the Japanese have a say in his speeches. Quezon's U.S. speech broadcast over KGEI was very much to the point. He promised no early hope of lifting the Philippines out of Japanese bondage, and confirmed the U.S. immediately agreed to give us independence after our "redemption" [FDR's word]. A Japanese fellow told a friend of mine: "We in Japan are growing stronger daily, but our Allies, the Germans, appear to be getting weaker. Fortunately, we shall soon be in position to send aid to them. Possibly in the next two months we shall be able to help them out by sending raw materials to Germany." And he was perfectly sober, said my friend. |
