"Japan Unshakable in the South Pacific." Yes, again! American and Australian bases in New Guinea and the Solomons have lost their "strategic" value before the "menace" of newly established Japanese positions — in Shangri-La, no doubt. Another letter in the Public Pulse, this one by Armando Ligaya of 18 Mangahan, Parañaque (I bet that's not his real address, and furthermore, the editor of the Public Pulse is going to get fired soon): Sir: It is high time we stopped this fancy of changing names. If we indulged in a frenzy of name changing, we shall have a Herculean task before us, because the great bulk of names of our provinces and towns are of Occidental origin. What is wrong with the name 'Philippines'? Why change it to Rizal? Rizal was born under the Philippine sun. He acknowledged the name as that of his native land. Is the name 'Jose Rizal y Mercado' of Oriental origin? Why don't we change his name too? |
