Tribune: "Vargas Changes Names of Streets, Parks and Bridges with Approval of Japanese Military Authority" — or the other way around. To eradicate Anglo-Saxon influence, over 135 streets as well as the cities of Iloilo, Cebu, Bacolod, Cavite, and Baguio, plus Borneo, Malaya and Batavia have been renamed. How to make up a parade in one easy lesson: The Japanese informed the Chinese they wanted 10,000 men to march in the parade — the Chinese negotiated a discount, guaranteeing that at least 5,000 would attend. They printed 5,000 cards for distribution among the Chinese help. The help had to get their cards stamped at the parade ground or suffer a P10 fine. |
