Yesterday, the fate of Stalingrad was "sealed," according to the Tribune. Today, it's "Nazi forces mass for an assault," while La Vanguardia only says, "Stalingrad Incommunicado." No doubt they'll check their dictionaries to come up with another headline for tomorrow. A Japanese officer told Schaer he was hoping for a quick Russian defeat. Hitler would then invade Britain and the U.S Navy would transfer units from the Pacific to Europe, or so his thinking went. "Then, we will have things our way here." In other words, they cannot have "their way" in the Pacific unless the U.S. Navy goes somewhere else. |
