The Magazine section of today's paper is devoted almost entirely to pictures of Santo Tomas: "Peace, Contentment Prevail at Internment Camp." In some future day, when this war is over, a number of Americans — men, women and children, especially those that before entertained a hideous imagination about concentration camp — will hold a grateful memory of the days of their confinement as internees at the University of Santo Tomas. Starting in August, only vehicles engaged in six narrow categories of transportation will be allowed to run. The editor of the Sunday News explained that the Americans gave us roads and highways so that they could sell us their overpriced cars, "in order to soak the natives." Well, now we can't drive them, let alone buy them. |
