Tribune: "Full Amnesty Up to Freed War Captives ... Favored Men are Expected to Help in New Asia Order." The article belies the propaganda line that Americans forced Filipinos to fight Japan. Most of the Filipino prisoners are those taken in Bataan and Corregidor where in spite of repeated invitations to surrender, the struggle against the Japanese Forces was kept up till the end. Here's a new one on looting: "Wheeled away from a carretela parked right in front of its owner's house yesterday were the rig's two front wheels." That day, another cochero complained his horse harness was stolen. Police are now warning car owners that men are busy stealing the licenses posted on windshields. A certain Japanese (I can tell it's the same caller) telephones our house almost every day between 1800 and 1830 pretending he dialed a wrong number. I just sweetly say, "Number please?" and he hisses and hangs up. I suspect he's trying to catch me with the radio on. |
