The Tribune had to publish an apology for referring to Hirohito as "His Imperial Highness" instead of "His Imperial Majesty." They stopped the presses to make the correction when the error was pointed out. Also printed is another Vargas speech that I'm almost sure he didn't write. It's a case of the Japanese propaganda machine writing them and Vargas checking the newspaper every day to read what he said. And here's how the press admitted that Manila was a ghost city yesterday:

Practically all economic activities were suspended, as the people preferred to stay at home as a fitting observance of the Emperor's birthday and to pray for peace and thank the Japanese Imperial army for its efforts to bring back the country to normal.
