Consul Kihara takes up the propaganda baton and runs with a long article in the Tribune wailing against the USAFFE scorched earth tactics, the futility of further resistance, and so on. He asks: "Why were more Filipino [than American] soldiers killed or wounded?" Someone should tell him there were five times as many Filipinos fighting than Americans. The article reminded me of what a Japanese fellow from Baguio said when Gabby asked him how was business: "Terrible, the Americans should never have declared war on Japan." He said he expected an improvement when the Bay is opened to shipping after Corregidor falls. "Yes", answered Gabby, "but Corregidor is still standing." "No sense, no sense," was his reply; "why don't those fellows give up honorably?" |
