Stores will have to close for three days to re-price goods after the imposition of a bewildering array of taxes to "discourage use of luxury goods in P.I." Lt. Col. Narusawa made a plea to our soldiers in Bataan: "Stop Lost Struggle." He explained Japan's aim "to deliver 17 million Filipinos from their political and economic bondage." The radio reports an offensive on Bataan was repulsed — probably a feint anyway. There's plenty of daytime activity in Manila; what we can't see is what's happening at night. Planes could be seen all day on their way to bomb Corregidor and Bataan. |
