For two days now the Japanese have been a bustle of activity — tractors, tanks and buses on the move right through the last two nights. Trucks rush about pell-mell in this autoless city. Most of the ones I saw were driving at reckless speeds and carrying no cargo, probably returning from a night of delivering equipment to the front. Romiro and Lolita couldn't get any sleep last night due to the constant rumble. Lots of barges are being prepared in Cavite. I saw two tractors pulling trailers with a heavy steel launch on each that could carry about 50 men. Air activity is the heaviest since the last offensive. Twenty-six new-looking bombers passed overhead in a 9-8-9 formation. No doubt another massive effort is being prepared to finish-off the USAFFE at Bataan. |
