MFP: "Restoration of Philippine Sugar Industry Undecided." It's all tied up with the negotiations on independence, free trade, quotas and bases. Osmeña doesn't realize that many U.S. interests are for independence in order to exclude P.I. sugar and other competitive products. Filipinos are moaning the loss of Quezon and Roosevelt even more now. A few booed when Osmeña came out in a recent newsreel at the Times. No one questions his loyalty, only his judgment.

Roxas is the ace in the hole for the Filipinos; even more brilliant than Quezon, according to some. "Watch him," they say, "Don Manuel is smart. He's looking first before jumping." And watch the parade being planned for Roxas on the 28th — it's going to be something.
