The Japanese have taken all of the Crystal Arcade and Calvo Buildings on the Escolta, giving everyone just 48 hours to get out! A mess ensued as everyone fought for trucks and pushcarts. It cost Dad P4,000 to hire 3 pushcarts and 8 laborers for the day. I worked all afternoon moving things home. Tribune: "Ten U.S. warships blasted" by kamikazes in the Leyte Gulf. "Large bombs wreck American airfields ... 100 P-38s set ablaze in Tacloban." The box score now totals 233 ships! Four ships landed Japanese reinforcements in Leyte, two of which were subsequently sunk by American fighter planes. Ten Japanese planes attacking the Leyte shores were shot down. |
