Tribune: A half-page picture of Leyte Gulf shows the waters off Tacloban with some 20 ships floating like contented ducks that the paper claims are on fire, listing or sinking. Part of the new 1200 by 60-meter runway can also be seen. "Reduced number of foe raiders in P.I. proves Nippon victories" — down from 2,550 flights over Taiwan to 1,000 flights over Manila in September 21 and 22, and only 200 flights in October 29. News: Leyte definitely slowed down; Japanese reinforcements are being ferried into Ormoc at night from Cebu. It seems that Ormoc will suffer the worst in the coming battles. Pacific: Practically a record for widespread raids. China: The Japanese all-out effort has taken them to within two miles of Kweilin. There's not much progress in Europe. My last prediction for the fall of Germany expired in October 15 — the Nazis didn't listen. Manila is quiet — only a few Japanese planes and an occasional vintage 1936 Japanese bomber. Half a million Manilans are clamoring for more raids. |
