Tribune: "40 U.S. planes visit Davao — cause small fire." Some 25 B-24s and 15 P-38s attacked "without inflicting any damage to military establishments." One B-24 flew over Tacloban, Leyte. "Approaching Naval Battle of Japan Sea Discussed" — all about the Togo-Rozhdestvensky sea-battle of 1904 — a great Japanese victory. The author admits the weakness of the Japanese Navy is a shortage of planes. The "anti-aircraft practice" has been extended to tomorrow. U.S. subs set a new mark. After flopping with 9 in 12 days, they've come through with a record of 29 sinkings in eight days. A total of 169 Japanese ships have been definitely sunk in September so far. If their navy doesn't come out to fight, they'll have none left. |
