Tribune: "5-day defense drill in Manila will start today.... General traffic to be suspended throughout city or in designated areas from August 25 — people urged to continue normal pursuits." Partial blackout is in effect. The day is fast approaching when it won't be a "drill" anymore. "U.S. quiet about heavy losses in Kyushu, Chugoku raids." Iguchi goes to town on this and scores. Following that is an eyewitness account of the battle. One Sergeant, Shigeo Nobe, sees two B-29s and shoots down one. Then, like a billiard player, he crashes into the second which takes out a third below, which was his intention according to the account. FLASH: Paris liberated. The first of the big five: Paris, Warsaw, Manila, Berlin and Tokyo. The Americans generously let the French patriots take the city. The Germans exited to avoid being surrounded. |
