I know of five people who saw the burning ship yesterday and their stories don't match. Most assume it was an accident and that the ship contained ammunition and fuel. The fire stopped at 1000 today after littering the shores of the Bay with thousands of burned out oil drums. The big news today is that the Silent Navy's Minister Shimada is out and Admiral Nomura is in. Maybe he'll speak up. La Vanguardia: "Burmese Commission arrived today.... Chungking evacuates Kweilin.... Laurel wants restaurants to close early" — at 1900. Two Chinese gents were killed and robbed of their clothes in the men's room of the Ideal Theater last week. At another theater, a girl was robbed and stripped though not molested. We've heard shooting for three nights straight now; the situation is slowly slipping into chaos despite desperate attempts by the authorities and constabulary to tighten control. And the worst has yet to come. |
