Tribune: "PC [Philippine Constabulary] Heroes proved Filipinos capable of sacrifice, Laurel." It only proves Laurel needs to refresh his knowledge of our history. "Counter-attacks by foe pressed" — in the Indo-Burma front — the cheek of the British to even dare such thing! "Constabulary Base Pay Hiked." A Master Sergeant gets P100 a month plus bonus; the lowest Private gets P60, a P36 bonus, free clothing, lodging and sustenance. "And the effects thereof shall be suspended when prices of commodities recede, hazards to life reduce, and finances of the Government require." It sounds like the government is losing touch with reality. Commentator says one direct hit from their new super-dreadnoughts can blitz-sink the largest American battleship. He firmly believes it too. I have it on good authority that preparations for the Imphal propaganda campaign included special headlines in the papers and prepared speeches by various dignitaries, including even Jehwani (President of the Indian Independence League); plus lavish posters, radio broadcasts and much more ado. What a terrific setback to Japanese morale here! |
