By Radio: British and Indian troops broke through the Japanese encirclement of Kohima to contact the defenses there — the Dimapur-Kohima Road should now be open — and next should be the Kohima-Imphal Road. Tribune: "Government adopts new rice policy." The idea comes from Roxas, who insisted on a free hand before heading the EPB. Anyone in Manila is permitted to store one cavan of rice for own consumption — equivalent to 240 grams per day from May 1 until the next harvest. Biba will buy a percentage of rice or palay from a grower in the provinces, and deliver the rest to Manila for him for free. For a limited time, anyone can get a permit to go to the provinces and bring rice to Manila provided 20% is sold to Biba for P80 a cavan. |
