At a Neighborhood Association meeting in Quezon City over the weekend, two policemen addressed the unruly crowd in a sharp manner, explaining that regulations required civilians to help with patrolling in order to get their rations. The meeting became unruly when the people, deprived of their rations, argued back. As the meeting broke up, four masked men held up the policemen, took their pistols, then told the startled but amused crowd NOT to patrol unless rations were forthcoming! A rumor is crystallizing that some big shot Japanese military officials will arrive this week to make the Philippines their general headquarters. "Seven profiteers [meat] arrested in two markets" — all Chinese! |
