April 9, 1944 — Easter Sunday
Second anniversary of the fall of Bataan — and no parade! The price of coffee is back below the fixed price. A little bird told me the reason the government fixed the price above what it was selling for was that a number of government officials had coffee plantations. The Japanese Navy chartered a batel and loaded it with 150 sacks of sugar to take to Cebu. While waiting a few days for an escort or clearance against American submarines, the sugar vanished. The navy is raising hell about it. |
