Tribune: "Government moves to stabilize food prices in Manila." Last month people were allowed to enter the city with a limited amount of rice for own consumption. Now they've stopped it, even for those entering without a ration card. As for sugar, the "Home Front" column prints instructions for making Calamansi syrup: "Mix the juice of 100 Calamansi, 5 cups of sugar and a half-cup of water, and boil for ten minutes." It's funny because 5 cups is more than a month's ration! I'm willing to pay P4 a kilo but I can't find any — and that's for washed sugar; refined sugar sells for P15 to P20 a kilo compared to 10 centavos prewar. |
