La Vanguardia: "Twenty more enemy planes fall in Bougainville" — out of 96 if you want to believe it. Gasmata isn't mentioned at all; it's being raided more heavily than Buin every day. News: The Gilberts is all but finished; some 6,000 Japanese dead have already been counted. A statement says the U.S. has 800 warships in the Pacific including 40 carriers but not counting torpedo boats and corvettes. Britain has 160 or so warships in the Pacific and Indian Ocean waters. Waves of low-flying planes piloted by U.S. and Chungking flyers bombed Formosa for the first time, surprising the Japanese. |
