"54 Delegates voted for. These 54, together with the incumbent governors and city mayors, constitute the first 108 men of the future Republic." There was no campaigning at all — candidates didn't even have to make a speech. "Commission takes over PRIMCO." The Japanese want to pass the blame on to Filipinos for the lack of prime commodities. "German troops on Naples front contact units advancing north" — had all of Manila laughing. Yesterday I received a smuggled letter from Joe dated September 4: There is a large detail of men from this camp who we believe will go to Japan. No, I am not leaving with this detail and I don't know when I am going, if ever. Nevertheless, my conservative nature always tries to be prepared for every eventuality.... I would like to have the address of somebody in Japan.... I have now 99 men in the barracks at present, the largest number I've ever had. But in the near future, this number will be cut by the outgoing detail. Some of the boys I've had with me since the beginning are leaving; some of them are really good boys. Around 2,000 of the boys arrived in Manila's Tutuban Railroad Station last Saturday night. Made my first stock commission today. I was instrumental in arranging a deal for 23,000 shares of Lepanto at P30. |
