Today should have been a holiday — the 45th anniversary of the entry of American troops into Manila. An irked Commentator wrote: "The significance of this day should be clarified, once and for all, in the light of historical facts." La Vanguardia: "The Axis dominates more in Sicily." Actually, they are beginning to evacuate a la Dunkirk under a barrage of guns from both shores. It looks as if most of them will get away too. In the Pacific, the news is American bombers (probably from the Aleutians) hit Japanese territory — Chishima Island in the Kuriles, north of Hokkaido. |
