Tribune: "Foe's return impossible — Generals say" — quoting Generals Francisco and de Jesus, who both commanded troops in Bataan. Read the article carefully and you'll find their comments are heavily qualified with conditionals and disclaimers — but why let that spoil a good headline, eh? Another article, "Ex-Soldiers Recall American Betrayal," is more venomous, but one senses it's not Filipino wrath speaking, but Japanese wrath and desperation, or exasperation at the Filipinos' refusal to rise up against America. Local news: Tan Tian Hong, the Secretary of the Chinese Association in Manila was shot and killed in broad daylight right on Calle Nueva at 0800. He was allegedly pro-Japanese. |
