Biked to the Luneta at noon to check out the Bay. I've never seen so many ships there, even in peacetime. Ships are clustered around the hospital ships for protection. Thousands of Japanese troops are marching north through the city, throwing traffic in chaos. As expected, the red armbands only attract sympathy. Wearing her armband, Sister paid P10 for a pair of shoes. A friend of hers liked them and went to the same shop the next day, only to find she'd have to pay P24! German ladies, on the other hand, find things are "out of stock" when they know for a fact that others have no problems buying them. |
