November 27, 1942
"Remember November 26" is the title of today's Tribune editorial, part of a campaign, now in its second day, to blame the U.S. for the war and to justify the attack on Pearl Harbor. It begins like this: "Without exception, no other nation loves peace more than Japan." I don't doubt it; she warred in 1894-95, 1904-05, 1915-18, 1936-42, and is still at it. The banks seem eager to clean out their bad loans. A fellow with a P200,000 loan settled it for P20,000. A man with a P100,000 overdraft said he simply couldn't pay. "But you must — even a little — anything within your means to show your good faith." So he sent P40 by his cashier — and the bank accepted it! |
