A slow news day again: Preparations for cotton farming on a 30-acre Canlubang farm have started. The Japanese tell us we should get double the prewar price. After 30 days of silence, the Japanese are still trying to retake the Solomons. As for Stalingrad — "Axis Troops Reinforced." Anselmo Trinidad reported that everything was quiet in Zambales when he was there early June. Later that month he was back in Manila when regular USAFFE Guerrillas attacked and all hell broke loose. Consequently, the Japanese-installed governor and the mayor fled to Manila and are still here — and Trinny's betting they won't return. Are the attacks the work of bandits? "No, the guerrillas know who to get." The poor provincianos are caught in the middle and have to furnish rice to both sides. |
